How to Beat Dvalin
In this Detailed Progression Guide, I will be breaking how to beat Stormterror by breaking down his attack patterns along with comps for your first starter team to a speed team.
After reading this guide you should have a good idea of what characters you need to build for whatever stage of the game you’re at.
The goal of this guide is to get your team to a 100% success rate and under 1 min! I want to help you make it as efficiently as possible so you can really maximize on your weekly exp and artifact farming to progress your Genshin Impact account as fast as possible.
Building a 100% success rate speed team is really important as failing is very time consuming and costly which takes away from your ability to build your other characters.
Dvalin Rewards
Defeating Stormterror gets you a lot of valuable rewards. Not only will he help you get started in getting artifact sets, but he’ll also give you a ton of exp, pieces to craft new weapons and ascension materials for characters. Every player should try to beat Dvalin as soon as possible to get access to all these goodies.
Dvalin's Attacks
RUSHING ATTACK – Dvalin will begin this attack by rising up out of the screen then will reappear to rush straight at you in the center of the field.
HOW TO EVADE – All you have to do is just run to either side of the field. Return back to the center once he’s reappeared again. You will have a small window to use a Bow to chip away at his shield.
BODY SLAM – Dvalin will slowly rise upward then slam down on the stage with his claws. This attack won’t hurt you, however, once he opens his mouth and fires his attack, it will deal lots of damage.
HOW TO EVADE – You need to watch where his head is position when he lands. He’ll look at the direction before he attacks. Rush to the opposite side and start attacking his other claw as much as possible to bring down his shield.
COLLAPSE – Once you break through his shield, Dvalin will fall down on the stage and expose his vulnerable horn which you can damage.
HOW TO ATTACK #1– The first method is to climb up his neck and use your supports like Xiangling E and Burst for extra damage then swap to your main.
HOW TO ATTACK #2– The 2nd method is much more efficient if you have a Bow DPS. All you have to do is just stand there and fire at his horn. This is faster because it saves you time from climbing. Use support characters like Bennet here then swap to your main. Bennet’s burst will boost your DPS attack.
ANEMO BLAST – Once Dvalin has regain consciousness, he will sway back and forth right before firing two anemo blasts at you.
HOW TO EVADE– All you need to do is wait until he fires his blast then sprint out of the way.
ROAR – After taking 25% damage, Dvalin will do a huge roar which cracks the stage. Staying on the stage will deliver lots of damage over time. You will die if you stay on the cracked, corrupted stage.
HOW TO EVADE– You need to run to the edge of the platform as quickly as possible and use the whirlwind to hop onto the next one. You need to cross two platforms to clear the corruption.
Note: Storm terror will do a dive attack while you are moving from platform to platform. As long as you glide across the platform at the peak of the whirlwind, his dive will miss you.
RUSHING BITE– Dvalin will slowly rise upward once again to slam down on the stage with his claws. Remember, this attack won’t hurt you as long as you avoid his breath attack.
HOW TO EVADE – Watch where his head is position when he lands and rush to the opposite side and start attacking his other claw as much as possible to bring down his shield.
SUPER ANEMO BLAST– Dvalin will fly far away from you. This is a clear sign he will do a huge anemo blast.
HOW TO EVADE – The blast will hit the center of the stage. You will need to rush to the farthest end on either side to avoid.
TEAM COMPS
f2P TEAM
F2P EARLY TEAM– This team is completely free to play since all these characters you will get for free as you progress in the game.
Xiangling: She’ll be your primary dps unit unless you have a better one from your wishes. Her E and Burst are excellent for constant additional damage when Dvalin does his Claw Slam and when his shield is broken.
Amber: Having two pyro characters gives your team a pyro buff. Amber is also good for chipping away at the shield since the other characters can’t reach Dvalin while he’s flying.
Barbara: She is a solid healer and her E helps to give you vaporize elemental reactions which will boost Xiangling’s damage output.
Noelle: She is a great shield character to help protect you from some of the damage incase you miss your dodges. She also has a backup heal incase Barbara is killed or her heal isn’t ready.
SPEED TEAM
SPEED TEAM– This team is an amazingly efficient speed team that will allow you to take down Dvalin so fast he won’t even know what hit him. This one is a little costly to build and will take time, but is totally worth it. This comp is also useful for many other contents of the game.
Ganyu: She is hands down the best Bow user in the game in terms of DPS. Her charge shot deals two sets of big damage and her burst rains down lots of ice chards when Dvalin falls and is exposed. She is the fastest character at taking down Stormterror from the sky.
Bennett: His bursts boost Ganyu’s ATK power and he heals….not like you’ll need it though!
Venti: His burst is insane and is here to juice up Ganyu’s burst to deal insane amount of damage when Dvalin is down.
Diona: She is here for her shield, but primarily to give Ganyu 15%+ Crit Rate when you have two Cryo characters on your team.
CONCLUSION
- Don’t stay in the center of the platform.
- Shoot Dvalin in between his attacks.
- Go to the opposite side he is facing when he does his claw slam and attack the opposite foot.
- Climb or shoot his horn when he collapses.
- Time your dodge when he does his double blast.
- Get off the corrupted stage when he roars.
- Dodge to the edge of the platform when he does his big blast.
